NOTIFICATION OF ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORKS
A1 Apleyhead to Newark
I'm writing to let you know that we'll be carrying out essential maintenance works on the A1 between Apleyhead and Newark on the northbound and southbound carriageways.
During our work, we'll:
•
Resurface the northbound and southbound carriageways including laybys and slip roads.
•
Refresh road markings and install road studs and high friction surfacing.
•
Carry out vegetation and overburden clearance.
When will the work take place?
Work is due to start on 6th January 2025 and is scheduled for completion by 25th May 2025 (Weather dependant).
Please note that all our planned roadworks may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
How will the work affect traffic?
To keep our programme for these works as short as possible and to minimise disruption to the local community, residents, businesses and road users, we'll work from 8pm until 6am on Monday to Friday.
The works will be carried out under a full carriageway closure between Apleyhead and Newark in one direction at a time. This will be delivered in four phases utilising two different diversion routes - the A614 and A616 (Phases one and four) and the A46 and A57 (Phases two and three) Please note Dunham Toll Bridge will be opened during the use of this diversion route.
•
Phase 1 Southbound from 6th January 2025 to 10th February 2025 (A1 Closure from Apleyhead to Newark)
•
Phase 2 Southbound from 11th February 2025 to 12th March 2025 (A1 Closure from Markham Moor to Newark)

*The above dates are weather dependent
During these closures a fully signed diversion route will be in place, which has been agreed with the relevant Local Authorities.
How will the work affect businesses and residents?
We'll make sure that access to businesses and residences is maintained wherever possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will do our very best to complete the work as quickly as possible, keeping disturbances and noise to a minimum.
